Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0992761A1] The method involves determining the actual rotation frequency of the shell during a time-limited calibration phase, immediately after being launched. The method takes into account the deviation of the actual muzzle velocity of the shell from the theoretical muzzle velocity by determining the actual muzzle velocity using the effect of the earth's magnetic field on the shell indirectly via the actual rotation frequency. An apparatus for carrying out the method is also claimed. The use of the apparatus to increase the efficiency of a weapon system is also claimed.
