[origin: WO9902375A1] An inflatable band occupant restraint system includes an inflatable band that is configured to lower the stresses encountered by the band fabric during inflation and secondary impact. This reduction is accomplished by including a pleat pattern that better approximates the ideal cylindrical curvature of the band when inflated, attaching the band to a seat belt using a smaller radius attachment portion, and stitching the pleated portion of the band to the belt while maintaining the center of the band stitching-free.
