Abstract (en)

[origin: WO9903066A1] A process is disclosed for operating a device for detecting the position of at least one characteristic region of a person and for generating a control signal for an apparatus depending on that position. First and second image signals of at least the characteristic region (8) are generated by means of a camera (7). The first image signals are generated by means of a first light source and the second image signals are generated by means of the first light source and of a second, additional light source (10) with a light emission different from that of the first light source. The first and second image signals are subtracted and differential image signals are generated. These differential image signals are examined with respect to the signals generated by the characteristic region (8), the local co-ordinates (P) of the characteristic region are determined and a signal corresponding thereto is generated.
