[origin: DE19718764C1] The theft protection system includes a transmission- and reception unit (2) arranged in the motor vehicle (1), which is electrically connected with at least two antennas (3), arranged separately of each other in the motor vehicle. A query signal is sent out through the antennas, and a transponder (5) sends out a response signal, if it receives the query signal. An evaluation unit (9) in the transmission- and reception unit evaluates the received response signal, and compares it with nominal values. A control unit arranged in the transmission- and reception unit supplies a query signal to the at least two antennas, dependent respectively on a combination of transmission parameters, whereby the query signal is transferred in dependence on the transmission parameters in at least two different transmission channels, and the parameters are changed in dependence on the response signal.
