Abstract (en)

[origin: DE19819901A1] The invention relates to a turnstile (1) for the passage of people (27) comprising a revolving head (4) fitted with blocking arms (5, 5') and mounted in such a way that it rotates together with the shaft (6), said revolving head being inclined downwards and the shaft (6) having a guide part (7) in which a blocking mechanism (26) operates in such a way that the shaft (6), and thereby the revolving head (4), can only rotate in a given direction and stepwise and the blocking arm (5) that is located on the top and intended to block the passage of persons (27) can be forced to move into a release position in case of a panic situation. According to the invention, the blocking mechanism (26) has two controllable blocking members (14). Depending on the chosen direction of rotation of the revolving head (4), the first or second blocking member (14) causes the guide part (7) to block. Each blocking arm (5, 5') interacts with a contact sensor (25) when the corresponding blocking arm (5) located on the top is pushed away by force. The contact sensor (25) is provided to interact with the blocking member (14) that had not been blocking the guide part (7) until then.
