[origin: DE19731312A1] In order to provide an external short-circuiting device (2) pertaining to a surge voltage protector (1) with as high a conducting capacity as possible, said device consists of a two-armed, flexible short-circuiting link (21) with contact areas (24,25) which are arranged in an axial position relative to the end electrodes (11,12). The contact area is formed by two lugs (26,27) revealing the middle area (11 A) of the respective end electrode opposite the edge area (11B). The insulating spacer (31) is arranged in between the common base (28) of the contact lugs and the edge area (11 B) of the respective end electrode.
