[origin: EP0996014A1] An insulated overhead line cable has bundled stranded metal wire conductors surrounded by a dielectric sheath (3), the wires (1, 2) adjacent the sheath (3) having a non-round cross-section for forming an almost gap-free conductor face (4) adjoining the sheath (3). The cable contains a metallic bundle core (5) with one or more integrated light guides (6), the core (5) being stranded with enclosing wires (2) which are pre-profiled to form a segmented, electrically conductive sleeve (7). Preferably, the sheath (3) consists of cross-linked (especially flame cross-linked) polyethylene and the conductors consist of aluminium or an aluminium alloy.
