[origin: WO9901390A1] A process and device are disclosed for producing glass foils, as well as the glass composite bodies produced therefrom. In order to industrially produce very thin glass foils in large quantities, a viscous, about 1 to 13 mm thick glass layer is continuously made to flow downwards out of the melting furnace, this viscous glass layer is fed by force of gravity to a foil drawing device, in which the already cooling glass layer is reduced by drawing and stretching to a thickness in a range of between 0.05 and 0.6 mm, preferably 0.2 and 0.4 mm, and finally the glass foil reduced to the desired thickness is cooled.
