Abstract (en)
[origin: DE19720769A1] The invention relates to a method and a device for cleaning the bottoms of shoes and the wheels of shopping trolleys, wheelchairs, pushchairs and similar devices used frequently in the entrance areas to public buildings such as shopping areas or administrative and commercial buildings. The aim of the invention is to develop a device which provides sustained high-performance cleaning, even in adverse weather conditions and with heavy use. To this end, the invention uses a continuous cleaning mat (10) which runs around between at least two deviating rollers (60, 70). In a section running in one direction, the mat acts at least partially as a tread surface and absorbs solid and liquid impurities, whilst in a section running back in the opposite direction, set at a distance from the first section, said impurities are removed from the mat by means of a cleaning and drying process (170, 180, 190, 310, 320, 330, 340, 450, 460). A cleaning device with a continuous cleaning mat is situated in an opening in the floor in the entrance area to a building in such a way that a tread surface is formed level with or slightly below the surrounding floor. The treatment process for cleaning the dirtied mat (10) takes place inside the floor opening on the section facing away from the tread surface running in the other direction. A belt band (90) serves to support and convey the mat (10), said belt band sliding in guide rails (120) or over a support plate (370).
