[origin: WO9906185A1] A socket (10) or set of sockets to be received in the opening (34) in the head of a low profile ratchet wrench (36). The ratchet wrench (36) has an annular lip (44) formed partially circumferentially about the opening (34) in the head. The socket (10) has a first axial portion (12) and an integral second axial portion (14). An opening (18) to engage a fastener is formed in the first axial portion (12). An opening (32) is formed in the second axial portion (14) communicating with the opening (18) in the first axial portion (12). A ratchet gear is formed externally on the second axial portion (14). The socket (10) is resiliently retained in the opening (34) and is manually insertable and removable from the ratchet wrench (36). The set of sockets (10) each has an opening (32) in the first axial portion (12) which is of a different size. An adapter (48) can be used instead of the sockets (10) to permit the use of ratchet wrench (36) with conventional sockets and accessories.
