[origin: WO9906342A1] A process for the preparation of 1,1,1,2,3,3,3-heptafluoropropane (HFC 227ea) by reacting hydrogen fluoride with hexafluoropropane (HFP) in the vapour phase over a fluorination catalyst using a molar ratio of HF:HFP is at least 3.5:1. The reaction can be carried out under adiabatic conditions with less catalyst fouling. The use of HFC 227ea as diluent allows the use of smaller plant.
