[origin: WO9857239A1] A distributed control system comprising a plurality of devices operating on a communication infrastructure. Each device communicates with each other device to determine what data that device can supply to other devices on the communication infrastructure, if any, and to determine which other devices can supply data that device needs to operate, if any. The invention can be expanded to more complicated systems including numerous similar devices which would not normally be capable of self-configuration by separating the devices into functional groups, and performing the applicants' self-configuration method to the associations of devices, rather than all devices within the system.
