System has a socket and a plug part, each with a base frame (5) with holders (3) of essentially U-shaped cross-section for holding at least one individual module with plug contacts. Each individual module (1) has two plastic carrier plates (7) which plug together to form the module housing. Sections of metal component assemblies (11) are inserted between the plates to form the plug contacts. The plastic plates and the sections of the metal component assemblies held by the plates are of the same design on the plug and socket sides, i.e. they are hermaphroditic.

Ein modulares Steckverbindersystem mit einem Buchsen- und einem Steckerteil, die jeweils einen Gundrahmen (5) aufweisen, der eine im Querschnitt im wesentlichen U-förmige Ausnehmung (3) zur Aufnahme wenigstens eines mit Steckkontakten versehenen Einzelmodules (1) umfaßt, zeichnet sich dadurch aus, daß jedes Einzelmodul (1) zwei zusammensteckbare und im zusammengesetzten Zustand das Modulgehäuse ausbildende Kunststoff-Trägerplatten (7) aufweist, zwischen welche Abschnitte von Metallbaugruppen (11) zur Ausbildung der Steckkontakte einsetzbar sind, wobei die Kunststoff-Trägerplatten (7) und die von den Kunststoff-Trägerplatten (7) eingefaßten Abschnitte der Metallbaugruppen (11) buchsenseitig und steckerseitig baulich gleich sind (hermaphroditisch). <IMAGE>
