[origin: WO9902511A1] The invention relates to a method for epoxidizing alkenes of formula (1) in which R<1>, R<2>, R<3> and R<4> represent, independently from one another, hydrogen, C1-C20 alkyl, C1-C12 alkoxy, C6-C10 aryl, -CHOH-CH3, -CH-NH2-CH3 or carboxy, with air or oxygen, in the presence of a catalyst containing compounds of formula (2) MoxOy(L)z, in which x equals 1, 2 or 3, y represents an integral number from 0 to 2x + 1 and z represents an integral number from 1 to 2x, ligand L being an arylalkanol. The inventive method is characterised in that the reaction is carried out in a pressure vessel which is entirely coated with an inert material.
