[origin: WO9909688A1] A method for establishing a path for a communication signal is performed in a wireless communication system which includes a plurality of interconnected wireless network elements (510, 514, 515, 516), and a landline communications network which includes a plurality of interconnected landline network elements (305, 404, 508). The method includes establishing a first signaling link (501, 330) between a communication unit (206) and a landline network element (404), followed by establishing, by the landline network element (404), a second signaling link (522, 524) between the landline network element (404) and a wireless network element (514). The communication unit (206) transmits mobility-related messaging associated with the communication signal to the wireless network element (514) via the first and second signaling links.
