[origin: EP1006273A2] The crankcase is block shaped and a rectangular cross section. The base (15) of the block corresponds to the side projection in the cylinder head area. The crankcase has chambers (2) projecting from the long sides into the interior. A chamber is defined by the side walls (17), part of the base of the crankcase, and one wall of the crank shaft chamber (10). The chambers on one side contain auxiliary components, e.g. pumps, and oil volumes, those on the other side contain heat exchangers, and filters.
