Abstract (en)

[origin: DE19653835A1] Known watering systems include aquaculture systems, insertable clay cones or insertable containers with water reservoirs. Aquaculture systems are not suitable for all plants. Other systems are impractical to handle and often not aesthetically pleasing. The new automatic watering device is able to water plants autonomously, without it being necessary to replant them, for several weeks with the correct amount of water and at low energy consumption, exactly as if they were watered by hand. The device is also aesthetically pleasing. According to the invention, the water is contained in a flexible container (3) of variable volume, which is placed under pressure by a weight or spring, compressed similar to an accordion and emptied. At the base of the automatic device the water flows in a riser pipe (4) upwards over the edge of the pot. Inside the riser pipe (4) is situated an electronically controlled outlet valve (5) with a timer (6). The desired time interval and quantity of water are set. The water is refilled through an opening (9) or through the riser pipe (4), following expansion of the reservoir (3). The automatic watering device is suitable for all types of pot plants, vases and any kind of watering, whether indoors or outdoors.
