Abstract (en)

[origin: WO9910637A1] The invention concerns the operating mode of an internal combustion engine and a corresponding unit. The invention aims at improving said engine efficiency. For this purpose, a compressed gaseous fluid is introduced during a process loading in an inner cylindrical chamber formed in the piston upper dead centre zone, said inner cylindrical chamber is closed and the compressed gaseous fluid is heated by recuperation. In one single power stroke, the gaseous fluid brought to high temperature and enclosed in the cylindrical chamber is subjected to combustion, then the piston is compressed towards the lower dead point centre, with a drop in temperature and pressure. During an exhaust stroke, the combustion or exhaust gases are discharged from the inner cylindrical chamber, with withdrawal of thermal energy, by the movement of the piston towards the upper dead point centre. The invention also concerns an internal combustion engine, substantially an exhaust manifold stove (3) which can be alternately traversed by supplied gas (M) and combustion or exhaust gases (A), and optionally comprising a coating with catalytic effect.
