[origin: WO9840899A1] An electroluminescent device includes a first polymeric layer (1) as a hole transport/electron blocking layer and a second polymeric layer (2) as an electron transporting emissive layer, wherein the first layer and the second layer are in electrical contact so as to form an interface being capable of producing an exciplex-like emission upon a current being passed through the interface. The first layer has a greater hole transport capability than the second layer, and the second layer having greater electron transport capability than the first layer.
