[origin: WO9911156A1] The invention relates to a bristle area (5) for brushes, comprising a support plate (1), holes (2) made in said plate and plastic bristles (4) guided through said holes. The invention is produced by providing protuberances (9) with undercuts(10) or tapers or the like on the top side (8) of the support plate (1) facing away from the free working end of the bristles. The bristles (4) are introduced into the holes (2) and protrude above the undercuts (10). The bristles (4) are heated in the area of the undercuts (10) in such a way as to obtain a melt or plastic mass made of the same plastic as the bristles (4) that entirely or partially fills the undercuts. When hardened, said plastic mass forms a positive fit between the bristles (4) or bundles of bristles (3) and the undercuts (10), thus forming the support plate (1). The undercuts (10) can be pre-formed or formed simultaneously with the melting of the ends of the plastic bristles (4) that are to be melted (7).
