[origin: DE19739085A1] The invention relates to a method for controlling and regulating combustion in the combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine. According to said method at least one knock sensor detects a cylinder-specific knock signal for each individual cylinder of the internal combustion engine, the knock signal detected in this manner is transmitted to an evaluation circuit which from the knock signal detected reconstructs the combustion chamber pressure profile and said combustion chamber pressure profile is analysed for the purpose of controlling and regulating the next combustion in the cylinder concerned.
