Abstract (en)
[origin: WO9836394A1] An article surveillance sensor (21) comprises a non-crystalline, metallic sensor element (22), which in an active state is arranged to be magnetically or electromagnetically excited and detected, respectively, in an article surveillance system (10-18). The sensor is deactivated by the provision of thermal energy to the sensor element, so that the temperature of the sensor material exceeds its crystallization temperature and at least parts of the sensor element are crystallized. The sensor (21) is arranged together with a monitored article (20) in a deactivating volume (30). Essentially the entire deactivating volume is exposed to a magnetic or electromagnetic field, which is generated by external means (40; 50, 52, 54) and which varies in time, for contactless generation of thermal energy in the sensor element (22).
