[origin: WO9909626A1] A communications infrastructure system providing connectivity to communications outlets distributed throughout a space. Communications trunk lines entering a space are bundled to form horizontal risers. Each of the trunk lines ends in a rapid interconnect connector. The length of the trunk lines is chosen to provide a distribution of rapid interconnect connectors throughout the space. Communications outlets are connected to the horizontal risers by drop cables which include a rapid interconnect connector for connection to the rapid interconnect connector of the horizontal riser. Relocation or addition of additional communications outlets is performed by moving or adding drop cables and reconnecting to the nearest rapid interconnect connector or the horizontal riser.
