Abstract (en)

[origin: FR2768346A1] A compound that inhibits: (a) expression of a nucleotide sequence corresponding to all or part of the presenilin 1 gene; or (b) the expression of a nucleotide sequence having at least 90% homology with the sequence of (a); or (c) the activity of the expression product of (a) or (b), is used for the preparation of a medicament. Also claimed are: (1) an agent that inhibits expression of a presenilin 1 gene sequence by activating the p53 and/or p21 metabolic pathway; (2) an agent that activates expression of a presenilin 1 gene sequence by inhibiting the p53 and/or p21 metabolic pathway; (3) a diagnostic agent for detecting and monitoring cancers, comprising a presenilin 1 gene sequence used as a probe or primer; (4) a diagnostic agent for detecting and monitoring cancers, comprising at least one antibody corresponding to the peptide sequence of an expression product as above; (5) a diagnostic agent for detecting and monitoring Alzheimer's disease, comprising a presenilin 1 gene sequence used as a probe or primer; (6) a diagnostic agent for detecting and monitoring Alzheimer's disease, comprising at least one antibody corresponding to the peptide sequence of an expression product as above.
