[origin: DE19714906A1] The present invention relates to a method for improving the image resolution and can be used with the most various types of colour display, including in large size, especially on TV sets, monitors and liquid crystal displays. It can also be used with cameras. A basic principle underlying the invention is that in order to reduce the cost for implementing known methods based on the conventional colour pixels, new additional colour points have to be formed, the coloured centers of which are located outside the coloured centres of the conventional colour points. Colour values to be represented in said additional coloured points depending on the environment thereof are interpolated and then assessed based on an existing high-definition television signal. When a computer synthetized image is produced, the colour values are derived therefrom. The invention is also characterized in that the additional colour point images derived from such computer synthetized images are stimulated in a quick sequence.
