Ein Druck- oder Kopiergerät das eine- oder mehrere modulartig aufgebaute, austauschbare Teilaggregate (14) aufweist. Das zu identifizierende Teilaggregat (14) weist eine Identifizierungsanordnung (30) mit einem nicht flüchtigen Speicher (43) zum Abspeichern von funktionsrelevanten Betriebszuständen zugeordneten Betriebsdaten des Teilaggregates (14) auf sowie eine Kommunikationsschnittstelle (38,39) zum lösbaren Koppeln der Identifizierungsanordnung (30) mit einer Prozeßsteueranordnung (40) des Gerätes. Falls kein Datenspeicher vorhanden ist oder Daten eines ersten Datentypes auf einem vorhandenen Datenspeicher fehlen, wird eine Meldung zur Eingabe der Daten des ersten Datentyps ausgegeben. <IMAGE>
