Hydroxy-tetrahydroquinoline derivatives (I) and their salts and N-oxides are new: A = phenyl optionally mono- or disubstituted by halo, CF3, 1-3C alkyl or 1-3C alkoxy; D = -CR<5>R<6>R<7> or -CH2-O-CH2-R<8>; R<5>, R<6> = H; or R<5> = H; and R<6> = halo or OH; or R<5>+R<6> = an oxo group; R<7> and R<8> = phenyl, naphthyl, benzothiazolyl, quinolyl, pyrimidyl or pyridyl optionally mono- to tetrasubstituted by halo, CF3, NO2, CN, OCF3, SO2CH3 or NR<9>R<10>; R<9>, R<10> = H or 1-3C alkyl; E = 3-6C cycloalkyl or 1-8C alkyl; R<1> = OH; R<2> = H or methyl; R<3>, R<4> = 1-3C alkyl; or R<3>+R<4> = 2-4C alkylene chain.
