[origin: DE19901444C1] The transport device is attached to a transport carriage for movement past a number of successive stacking compartments (3), for transporting the mail containers (7) received from the latter to container reception bays (9), extending parallel to the stacking compartments. The mail containers are received by a console (2) having a surface which is angled downwards towards the container reception bays, and which is supported from the transport carriage via telescopic rails (5), for displacement between the stacking compartments and the container reception bays.
