[origin: EP1020591A2] The car parking system has several parking places (1 to 7) set side by side and one above the other in storeys in a framework (G). The parking places above the lowest storey move up and down whilst the parking places below the top storey move horizontally. The parking places (2, 5) between the bottom and top storey can be coupled selectively to the underneath or overhead adjoining parking places (3,6 or 1, 4,7) for horizontal or lifting movement. The parking places of the top storey are each connected to a lift drive (10) and can be lowered into a second upper position a few centimetres so that the parking places underneath sit on the parking places of the bottom storey.
