[origin: WO9824485A1] The present invention provides a method of inactivating lipid-enveloped virus in a solution of therapeutic protein. The method comprises incubating the solution at temperature greater than 15 DEG C at a pH in the range of about 4.0 to about 6.0 with caprylate at a concentration of at least about 6mM. The pH and caprylate concentration are selected such that the caprylic acid concentration is greater than 0,07 % w/w.
