[origin: WO9919026A1] The invention concerns a railway convoy C comprising a tank-and-pump car (1) wherein are located an extinguishing-liquid (3) reservoir (2) and a motor-driven compressor (5) which delivers the extinguishing liquid into conduits (12, 13, 15, 15a) terminating in sprinklers (16 and 18), located in the railway cars (10) carrying road vehicles or goods. When a fire starts at any point in one or several cars (10) the device which is permanently operational is immediately automatically triggered, even during the train journey and before the train can receive external assistance. The invention is useful for protecting piggy back traffic against fire.
