[origin: WO9916809A1] The invention provides a method for preparing a desired organic compound by reacting one or more reactants in a reaction medium comprising a fluorinated ether compound wherein the fluorinated ether compound comprises at least 3 carbon atoms and a perfluorinated moiety that is linked through ether oxygen atoms to one or more hydrocarbon moieties. The invention also provides certain products as a result of carrying out the aforementioned methods and methods of using such compositions to treat substrates like fabrics or electronic components.
