A process for coating a carrier with at least one liquid coating comprises moving the carrier along a path through a coating zone, where a curtain of liquid coating material is arranged laterally with respect to the path. Side guide members are used to move the curtain, and the edge liquid has a larger viscosity than the rest of the liquid.

Verfahren zum Vorhangbeschichten eines Trägers mit mindestens einer Schicht flüssiger Beschichtungszusammensetzung umfassend : Bewegen des Trägers entlang eines Weges durch eine Beschichtungszone, Bilden eines fallenden Vorhangs aus flüssiger Beschichtungszusammensetzung der sich quer zum Weg des Trägers erstreckt, Führen des fallenden Vorhangs mittels Seitenführungen an denen eine Randflüssigkeit mit einer Viskosität größer als in der Beschichtungszusammensetzung in Form eines Rinnsals verteilt wird. <IMAGE>
