[origin: FR2770214A1] Production of halogenated benzamides is effected by enzymatic hydrolysis of halogenated benzonitriles using a Brevibacterium nitrile hydratase defined as being a tetrameric enzyme of structure alpha 2 beta 2 having at least 50%, preferably more than 80%, homology with the amino acid sequences of the alpha chain and the beta chain.
