[origin: WO9919148A1] A printer (10) and method of printing on a substrate such a binder strip (14) used for binding a stack of sheets. A platen provides support for the strip (14), with the strip (14) being supported on the platen at opposite ends by strip supports. A print head mechanism (25) is mounted adjacent the platen (22) so that the mechanism (25) can move relative to the platen (22). A ribbon (28) having ink is disposed intermediate the print heat mechanism (25) and the platen (22) with a print head controller being provided which causes the print head mechanism to print the desired matter on the substrate.
