[origin: EP1028226A2] In a method and device for constructing a tunnel in the ground along a predetermined path, a rod is positioned in the ground. The rod is fixed with respect to the ground at at least one location. An earth removing device is displaced along the rod for the purpose of constructing the tunnel. A drive device which acts on the rod and the earth removing device is provided for the purpose of supplying at least part of the force for displacing the earth removing device. Tunnel wall sections are displaced along the rod with the aid of a second drive device which acts on the rod and the tunnel wall sections. <IMAGE>
