[origin: WO9924685A1] The invention relates to a locking device with a key-activated cylinder core (10) which when turned, performs various locking functions. A cylinder guide (14) is used to mount the cylinder core (10) in such a way that it can turn, said cylinder guide (14) having stopping points (13) for tumblers (12) situated in the cylinder core (10). In order to reduce the axial construction length (28) as far as possible, the cylinder guide (14) is accommodated in a housing (17) in such a way that it is fixed axially but can still turn, and is mounted in the key end area, the other area of the cylinder guide (14) being encompassed by a sliding member (20) which is torsionally rigid in relation to the cylinder guide (14) but is axially displaceable on the same. A spring (33) which is supported in such a way that it is fixed in relation to the housing acts axially upon a turning member (40) and therefore upon the sliding member (20), said sliding member moving synchronously with the turning member (40). An overload protection element (30) has a control section (32) which is located on the housing (17) and a counter-control section (31) which is spring-loaded in relation to the control section (32).
