The light source (4.1) is formed by a number of light diodes (6) arranged in at least one row (14.1) running substantially parallel to the longitudinal edge (1.1) and the light guide device (5.1) is embodied in such a way that the display surface (3) of the display device (1) is illuminated in a substantially homogenous manner.
