The elastic properties of the mattress can be locally changed by inserts (10, 11, 13) which directly adjoin each other in the recesses (2, 3, 4) of the mattress core. The inserts extend over the entire width of the mattress and the foam core (1) has as edge layers a cover layer (5) and base layer (6) held spaced from each other by webs (7, 8, 9) which are preferably stuck in. The hollow interspaces form the recesses for the inserts. the inserts can be cubed or prismatic blocks whose cross section corresponds in height and width to half the overall height of the mattress

Eine Matratze mit einem Kern aus elastischem Material, insbesondere einem Schaumstoffkern (1) weist im Längsschnitt gesehen quer zur Liegerichtung durchgehende Ausnehmungen (2, 3, 4) auf, die mit dicht nebeneinander liegenden, austauschbaren Einschüben (10, 11) bzw. Einsätzen, gegebenenfalls aus Materialien unterschiedlicher Härte und Elastizität ausgefüllt sind. Ein solcher Einschub (10) kann im Querschnitt X-förmig gestaltet sein und damit bei geringer Reibungsfläche gleichzeitig V-förmige Lüftungskanäle bilden. Ferner können die Ausnehmungen (2, 3, 4) nach oben oder unten einen Schlitz aufweisen, der sich allenfalls über die gesamte Breite der Matratze erstreckt. <IMAGE>
