[origin: EP1031302A2] The elastic properties of the mattress can be locally changed by inserts (10, 11, 13) which directly adjoin each other in the recesses (2, 3, 4) of the mattress core. The inserts extend over the entire width of the mattress and the foam core (1) has as edge layers a cover layer (5) and base layer (6) held spaced from each other by webs (7, 8, 9) which are preferably stuck in. The hollow interspaces form the recesses for the inserts. the inserts can be cubed or prismatic blocks whose cross section corresponds in height and width to half the overall height of the mattress
