[origin: WO9927116A2] DNA molecules encoding a dehalogenase that degrades the herbicide dalapon, and having codon usage suitable for small grain species, can be used to transform plant cells of a small grain species, and regenerate from said transformed plant cells small grain plants resistant to dalapon at field use levels. Preferred small grain species are wheat and rice.
