Abstract (en)

[origin: FR2771211A1] The fuel rod (1) consists of a tubular sleeve (2) containing a series of fuel pellets (4) and sealed at each end by a plug (3). The sleeve, which is filled with a pressurized gas such as helium, also contains a capsule (5) with its inner chamber (6) filled with a gas at a lower pressure. The capsule has a self-destruct section such as a disc (8) which provides for an increase in volume for the expansion of the pressurized gas once its pressure rises above a set level.
