Abstract (en)

[origin: GB2331667A] A subscriber terminal for wireless communication with a central terminal of a wireless telecommunication system has a first signal processing unit 110 associated with an antenna 100, and a second signal processing unit 130 remote from the first and associated with an item of telecommunications equipment 150. A connection medium 120 such as a coaxial cable connects first and second processing units. Calibration logic in the second processing unit controls the first processing unit to send test signals back to the second processing unit so that a signal loss introduced by the coaxial cable on the downlink can be determined and compensated. Uplink signal loss is compensated by sending a test signal from the second processing unit. The first signal processing unit may be mounted outdoors, externally to a subscriber's premises, and the second processing unit located indoors. within the subscriber's premises. Thus the less rugged and more expensive circuitry of the second processing unit is protected.
