Abstract (en)

[origin: DE19819027A1] The invention relates to a circuit configuration for operating at least one discharge lamp (LP) on a half bridge inverter (Q1, Q2), comprising at least one coupling condenser (C3) and a shut-off device (T1, A) which durably disconnects the half bridge inverter (Q1, Q2) when the lamp (LP) lights up with difficulty. According to the invention, the circuit configuration has means (V1, V2) for monitoring voltage drops on the at least one coupling condenser (C3) and for activating the shut-off device (T1, A) depending on the voltage drop detected in the at least one coupling condenser (C3). When the voltage in the coupling condenser (C3) clearly deviates for its normal value, for instance, due to the emergence of the rectifying effect at the end of the service life of the discharge lamp (LP), the half bridge inverter (Q1, Q2) is shut down by the shut-off device (T1, A).
