[origin: DE19829422A1] The invention relates to a fuel injector having an axially mobile valve needle (13) which comprises at least one closing element support (17) and a spherical valve closing element (18). The closing element support (17) in a downstream end area (46) houses the valve closing element (18). The valve closing element (18) cooperates with a valve seat (15) of a valve seat element (14). Upstream of the valve seat (15) the valve seat element (14) has material areas (51) across its circumference which alternate with recesses (52). The end area (46) of the closing element support (17) also has material sections (50) around its circumference which alternate with opening areas (49). The material sections (50) protrude into the recesses (52) and the material areas (51) into the opening areas (49). This fuel injector is especially suited for use in fuel injection systems of mixture-compressing, spark-ignited internal combustion engines.
