A stair lift comprising a rail (11,12) which extends, at least in part, upwards at an angle of inclination, and a frame (13) which is movable along said rail (11,12), on which a chair (31,32,33) is mounted. The frame (13) is provided with guide means (14,15) which engage the and with driving means (23,24) which extend outside the frame (13) and which engage a driving element (25) which is present near the rail (11,12). The part of the driving means (23,24) that extends outside the frame (13) is disposed at some distance from the vertical centre plane of the chair (31,32,33) on the side thereof where the rail (11,12) extends upwards. <IMAGE>
