[origin: DE19755442A1] The invention relates to a brake force multiplier, especially for motor vehicles, comprising an input member (2) that can be actuated in order to impinge upon a brake master cylinder (in particular) with a brake boosting force, and a control valve (4) arranged in a control housing (5) in order to regulate said brake boosting force. A reaction element is provided (16,80) with at least one surface (18) enabling force to be transmitted between the input and output members. Said device also contains a moveable pressure component (26,54,82) which is used to modify a counter surface acting upon the reaction element (16,80). The invention is characterised in that the pressure component (26,54,82) is detachably connected to the input member (2) or to components joined thereto by means of a driver element (40,51,70) in order to increase brake boosting according to relative displacement between the input member (2) and the control housing (5). The inventive brake force multiplier results in sharper brake response, especially during sudden operations such as panic braking.
