[origin: DE19846038A1] The invention relates to a visual display unit with reduced power consumption. To this end, the inventive visual display unit is fitted with a device for measuring electrical power consumption and a display device. Depending on additional embodiments of the invention, actual power consumption of the visual display unit is shown to the user through alphanumeric or graphic symbols. Said display can be effected at the request of the user or when power consumption exceeds a given threshold value. One particular advantage is that the screen of the unit is used for displaying power consumption so that no additional devices are needed. One essential advantage of the invention is that the user is reminded of an eventually unnecessary high power consumption thereby contributing to lower power consumption of the device. The visual display unit can be embodied as a monitor or a TV set.
