[origin: EP1037172A2] The automatic installation method uses storage of machine data within the franking machine during its manufacture and storage of a similar set of machine data together with a number code within a data center, which is supplied with customer data upon purchase of the franking machine, for combining with the corresponding machine data and the number code, before forwarding the latter to the franking location upon reception of a data request. An Independent claim for a device for automatic installation of a mail franking machine is also included.
