[origin: DE19758105A1] Dendritic polymer-saccharide conjugates comprising an amino-substituted dendritic polymer with branching derived from vinyl cyanide units, a signal emitting group containing metal ion(s), mono- or oligosaccharides and optionally cations of inorganic and/or organic bases, amino acids or amino acid amides are new. Conjugates comprising: (a) an amino-substituted dendritic polymer in which the branching is derived from vinyl cyanide units; (b) a signal emitting group containing metal ion(s); (c) mono- or oligosaccharides; and optionally (d) cations of inorganic and/or organic bases, amino acids or amino acid amides. Preferred conjugates have formula (I): P = dendritic polymer with branching derived from vinyl cyanide units and containing k amino groups of which (n+m) are each devoid of one H and k is equal to or greater than (n+m); n and m = 1-149; k = 12-150; K = signal emitting group containing metal ion(s); L = linker; and Z = mono- or oligosaccharide devoid of one OH. An Independent claim is also included for the preparation of conjugates (I) in which K is a group of formula (II)-(VI): R1 = H or metal ion of element with atomic number 20-32, 37-39, 42-44, 49 or 57-83, but at least two R1's are other than H; R2 = H, 1-7C alkyl, phenyl or benzyl; V = a group -OCH2(CH2)o(O)p(p-benzylene)l-; o = 0-10; p and l = 0 or 1, but p is only 1 when l is 1; T1 = -NHCS- or -CO-; U = -CHR3-CONR3-M1- or -CH2-CH(OH)-M2-; R3 = R2 or -CH2-(CH2)o-COOH; and M1 and M2 = phenylene or saturated or unsaturated 1-20C alkylene optionally mono- to penta-substituted with (CH2)o-COOH or OR2 or optionally containing 1-8 O atoms, 1 or 2 -NH-, -C(NH)-, phenylene or phenyleneoxy units or 1-5 -CONR3- or -NR3CO- units.
